Sushil Kumar said due to issues with School Games Federation of India of which he is the president, he couldn’t focus on training properly.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will not be a part of the national selection trials, which will be held on Tuesday after he opted out of the same. Vinod Tomar, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) assistant secretary, said Sushil is not feeling fully fit, which is why he did not participate in the trials. The trials will help the federation pick the Indian wrestling squad – freestyle and Greco-Roman – for the Asian Olympic qualifiers and the Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan in April.
Sushil was re-elected as the president of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) last week and due to issues related with SGFI, he did not get time to train, couldn’t focus on practice and he wasn’t in the right mindset, he told ANI.
He added that the issues have now been sorted out and he will resume his training and compete in the next competition for Olympic qualification.
The trials on Tuesday will be held in three Olympic weight categories in freestyle — 74kg, 97kg, and 125kg.
